Part-time or Per Diem RN:

Job Summary

Assists in the organization and daily function of the surgery center in accordance with established Federal, State, and center policies and procedures. Assists in overseeing patient care activities in the operating room, preoperative, and recovery settings and maintains a high standard of safety for the patient and other staff members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Admit patients and perform preoperative duties such as: updating health history, confirming allergies, vital signs documentation, medication administration, and patient positioning on the surgical stretcher.
  • Operating room circulating duties such as: opening sterile supplies, surgical antiseptic prep, monitoring vital signs, and monitoring for breaks in sterile technique.
  • Recovery duties such as: monitoring vital signs, assessing postoperative pain, and providing discharge instructions.
  • Ensures a clean and safe environment by participating in daily, weekly, monthly and on-going cleaning and disinfecting of the surgery center.
  • Participates in audits and studies to ensure quality care is being provided through assessment and performance improvement.
  • Maintains continuing education credits as required by the state of Washington and the surgery center.
  • Assists in inventory management of supplies and implants.
  • Communicates with surgery center team members to assure continuity of care.

Education and Experience:

Current Washington RN license and BLS required, ACLS preferred.  Prefer two (2) years experience as an operating room nurse. 

Candidates will complete some on-the-job training, but should already have the required skills, knowledge and work-related experience.

Language Ability:

Fluency of the English language. Excellent oral and written comprehension and expression. Speech clarity and recognition. Active learning and listening. Ability to respond to common inquiries and provide information to patients and colleagues. Good interpersonal skills.

Math Ability:

Ability to use mathematical methods or formulas for related medical and scientific measurements and calculations. Ability to calculate percentages. Ability to compile, tabulate, or verify information or data.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to collect data and establish facts. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Ability to use logic. Ability to identify information by categorizing and recognizing differences or similarities.

Computer Skills:

Accounting Applications, Charting Software, Document Management Software, Microsoft Office Suite, Email, Calendar and Scheduling Software, Medical Software, Internet, Data Entry, Inventory Management Applications

Certificates and Licenses:

Active Washington RN License

Basic Life Support, Current

ACLS within 6 months of hire

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Delegation of tasks to Medical Assistants as appropriate based on scope of practice.
